Character Interview: The Sidekick Squad, Not Your Backup

Today I’m bringing you an exclusive character interview with the one and only Sidekick Squad from CB Lee’s series of the same name! I got to ask five questions of our favorite characters, and I made sure that these are all spoiler free!

Not Your Backup CoverEmma Robledo has a few more responsibilities that the usual high school senior, but then again, she and her friends have left school to lead a fractured Resistance movement against a corrupt Heroes League of Heroes. Emma is the only member of a supercharged team without powers, and she isn’t always taken seriously. A natural leader, Emma is determined to win this battle, and when that’s done, get back to school. As the Resistance moves to challenge the League, Emma realizes where her place is in this fight: at the front. (Goodreads) Goodreads

If you could spend a day with someone you admire (alive, dead or fictional) who would it be?

EMMA: Katherine Johnston. Definitely. I mean, all the work she did on the space program, calculating that orbital flight, it’s incredible.

BELLS: That’s awesome, Em. I bet she’d love you.

EMMA: Me? I haven’t done anything even remotely cool enough.

JESS: You definitely have.

EMMA: Well, we know who Bells would pick–

EMMA AND JESS:  Styx Kipling, gentleman detective!

BELLS: You got me there. He’s too cool, solving crimes, looking suave…

EMMA: You already look suave, Bells.

BELLS: Hah! Thanks. Jess? Who’d you spend the day with?

JESS: I’d spend my day with Abby.

What talent would you most like to have?

BELLS: What talents don’t I have yet?

EMMA: It’d be cool to be able to just absorb information by osmosis. Not that I don’t like learning! It’d just be much faster.

JESS: Hm. More patience? That’s not really a talent of mine.

What kind of magnets do you have on your fridge?

EMMA: My moms have a bunch of magnets from all the places they’ve traveled all over the Collective!

BELLS: We have a bunch of fridges at the restaurant, but I’ve been banned from putting funny magnets on them. I stick all of those on Jess’ robot.

JESS: Chả was pretty confused. I wonder where those all went, those were fun! I’d rather have those terrible joke magnets than the old League collectible ones we had of all the heroes.

BELLS: My jokes aren’t terrible.

EMMA: Puns, Bells. Puns.

What is your favorite emoji?

JESS: ^_^

What unusual hobbies or interests do you have?

JESS: I love stories and writing in my journal! It’s one of my favorite things to do, to create new worlds.

BELLS: One of my favorite things to do is to draw–pencil and charcoal is my favorite, and I love sketching people and places.

EMMA: I’m absolutely fascinated by space travel! Exploring new worlds is a huge dream of mine.
