Character Interview: Alice, A Blade So Black

Books Character Interviews

Hello, my foxy friends! Today I’m thrilled to bring Alice from L.L. McKinney’s fantastic Alice in Wonderland retelling, A Blade so Black, in for a character interview!

Hello, Alice! Welcome to the blog, and thank you for agreeing to speak to me!

Hey! Yeah, sure, glad to. Long as we’re done before it gets too late. My moms is pissed about this thing that–what had happened was . . . nevermind. Glad to be here. That. Let’s go with that.

If you had a free day with nothing to do, what would you do?

A whole lotta nothin’. I stay busy, and it would be nice to just chill for a second. Maybe catch up on my shows, get some gaming in, watch some streams. Hang out at Courtney’s ridiculous pool. Her parents got mad money, they put an ocean in their backyard, you should see that thing.

If you could spend a day with someone you admire (alive, dead or fictional) who would it be?

My dad. It’s been a year and everything, but I miss’im. I miss’im a lot.

What are you most afraid of?

Dying? I mean, I guess that’s a metaphor for failure or something, but I mean literal in the dirt dead. And possibly resurrecting an ancient evil, but I hear that’s a typical Friday night around here.

What do you like best about yourself?

I don’t know. Like, I’m smooth with it on some Destiny, some D2. I’m into Overwatch, too. I carry, a lot. I’m digitally versatile. Is that a thing? Does it mean something I don’t want it to meant? I’m mean with a controller is what I’m saying. I like that about me.

What do you like the least about yourself?

How much time you got?

What is your most treasured possession?

There’s a Light Saber that my dad helped me build when we first got into cosplaying together. It used to hang on my wall, but it’s wrapped up in my closet now . . .

What do you always keep on you?

My phone I guess? Unless my mom takes it.

What would you like to be remembered for after your death?

Hopefully, that I didn’t screw something major up. And that I made my parents proud. And I made some dope costumes. Yeah.

If you could teach everyone in the world one thing, what would it be?

Love on your peoples, you only got’em while they here. Uhm, Han shot first, the cake is a lie, Black Girls are everything, God is good, and Wakanda Forever!
