Dolly Parton will be coming to Netflix, as announced this week, with 8 episodes telling stories based on her hits. Parton did something similar with her 2015 NBC movie, Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors and sequel Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.
Former 9 to 5 co-star Lily Tomlin accidentally announced the series early during a Grace and Frankie panel on Sunday, June 3. According to the news release, Parton will serve as “singer/songwriter, executive producer and will also appear in the series.”
Parton is currently working on the soundtrack for the movie Dumplin’, based off of Julie Murphy’s YA book of the same title. Dumplin will star Danielle MacDonald as Willowdean Dickson, and Jennifer Aniston as her pageant-running mother, Rosie Dickson.
As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music. I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with @Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations. https://t.co/jfMo5W16DY

The series will form a sort of anthology – a series of unconnected episodes – based on some of her hit songs. This begs a question, for me, of what songs will they use?
9 to 5 and Coat of Many Colors are already taken by their previous iterations, so I put on my good headphones and listened to…. so much Dolly Parton music. Here’s some I’d love to see turned into episodes!
You Can’t Make Old Friends ft. Kenny Rogers
Dump the Dude
Two Doors Down
I Will Always Love You
Honestly, no matter which songs she chooses to write stories around, I’m pretty sure I’ll love them. This series will join some of those by the Obamas in 2019!
